Hi! I’m Jacob Peddicord. You may know me from FOSSwire, Ubuntu, or elsewhere. I’m a student, web, and software developer. I’m a staff member at the Ubuntu Forums and contribute to a few other areas of Ubuntu. I currently maintain FOSSwire, an open-source collaborative news and tutorials website. Writing web applications using Python and Django has become a hobby of mine, though I also like to create desktop software using Python, Vala, GTK+, or whatever else fits the bill.
Take a look at some of my projects below, or find out more information about what I do in the later sections of this page.
Active Projects
jobs-admin and jobservice
Both jobs-admin and jobservice began as part of my Google Summer of Code 2010 project, and I continue to maintain both. jobservice is a platform-independent way to manage system services. It supports configurable service settings and can work on a wide variety of systems. jobs-admin is a GTK+ frontend to jobservice, and makes service management a snap. jobs-admin will have a console frontend in the future for use on the server.
Mound Data Manager
Mound Data Manager is an application I’ve written to manage the data of other applications. It is designed to be easy to use and get the job done as quick as possible. It is written in Python using GTK+.
Commandeer
Commandeer is a quick application to lock the display while a command is run. Useful for system backups, scheduled activities, and other system administrator tasks. Written in Vala using GTK+.
Previous Projects
PkgBase
PkgBase (pron. “Package Base”) is a small website designed to assist users in installing new software as quickly as possible. It detects the Linux distribution of the user’s computer and guides them to the quickest possible route to get whatever software they’re trying to install running.
Xeiso
Xeiso is a system designed to turn your PC into a gaming system. It can be installed onto any Linux-based computer. Development has largely halted, but is open for anyone to pick up and go. (Contact me if you’re interested in driving the project forward.)
Ubuntu
I am an Ubuntu Member, and do a variety of things in the Ubuntu world. I’m currently a staff member at the Ubuntu Forums, previously lead the Ubuntu Ohio LoCo team for 1.5 years, and currently serve on the Ohio team council.
